Massage

"Massage is not just a luxury. It's a way to a healthier, happier life."

Deep Tissue Massage, sometimes known as Remedial Massage, involves the release of chronic muscle tension via the application of deep pressure. Focusing on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, it can be used for a variety of conditions. Conditions such as stiff neck, lower back pain, chronic aches and pains, leg or shoulder tightness. The techniques can be similar to those applied in massage therapy; however, the pressure is deeper and the movement is slower. Our clinicians focus on particular areas of pain and/or tension, it is necessary to do so to reach the sub-layers of fascia (sheets of connective tissue) and muscles. Deep tissue massage can break down 'adhesions' (tight bands of tissue) providing pain reduction and freer movement.

DEEP TISSUE & SPORTS MASSAGE

Our clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach utilising all therapy classes for best patient outcomes

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep Tissue Massage works through the connective tissues and muscles down to the very deepest accessible layers. Ultimately the aim of this treatment is to change posture and increase movement by breaking down fascial adhesions and chronic muscle tightening. Generally, Adhesions and scar tissue are form in the muscles because of poor posture, chronic or acute inflammation, injury and repetitive movement. Deep tissue massages can encourage blood and lymph circulation, as well as lengthening and relaxing the superficial muscles. Additionally, it can stimulate the action of peristalsis in the intestine. Massage causes micro-tears in the fascia which fill with elastin and collagen providing greater flexibility to the muscles. After a session stretching is vital to retrain muscles and avert a reoccurrence.

Acupressure Neck Massage
What is sports massage?

The benefits of sports massage are plentiful especially if you exercise or train frequently as your muscles can tighten. Our clinicians can massage the muscle fibres to prevent them from sticking to each other or the bones. When you are training, muscles build up and can become hard making it difficult for nutrients and blood to enter the muscles. This process can also encourage repair and healing when an injury is present. In addition to allowing nutrients in, massage allows waste products (lactic acid) to be excreted easily. As the sports massage loosens the muscles there will be a decrease in pain. When muscles are hard and tense, stress is placed upon the joints, ligaments and tendons. Tending to the muscles reduces the stress load placed on the supporting structures. Massage also has a relaxing effect, which aids in reducing any stress or anxiety which may be felt.

Sports Injury
What will my first treatments consist of?

During your first deep tissue massage appointment our clinician will spend a brief time discussing how best to treat you based on what may be causing you pain. It is necessary to find out which areas are causing you pain and/or discomfort so you can get the most out of your massage. After this brief consultation our clinician will work to start treating you right away. Generally, our clinicians will focus on the areas highlighted in the consultation period by applying pressure to the affected areas. Ultimately aiming to release any adhesions and scar tissue from the muscles allowing you to move more freely and with less pain.

Upper Back Massage
How long will it take to recover?

You will be able to choose the severity of the pressure your clinicians apply between light and heavy. If you choose to have a heavy massage you may experience some discolouration (bruising) and feel tired for a few days after. However, this will not last long, most often people feel great and more energised the next day.

Is it affordable?

Yes, massage is a very affordable treatment. You will definitely be able to feel the benefits of massage once you've tried it.
