How a physiotherapist can help

Physiotherapy, according to the Charted Society of Physiotherapy, is defined as "Physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being, taking account of variations in health status". Physiotherapists aid in the restoration of patient mobility and functionality, helping them to move with greater freedom.

What will my first treatments consist of?

As our physiotherapists look at patients holistically, their primary focus is to educate and advise patients on how to avoid the problem reoccurring. This may include informing the patient of the correct way to carry and lift, how to adjust their diet and generally how to function in a way which prevents pain and injury. Within the treatment, the patient’s posture would be examined to see if posture is adversely impacting the problem. Ultimately, a physiotherapists aim is to improve the overall health and wellbeing of their patient. To achieve this a exercise regime may be suggested to improve body health, mobility and strength. Manual therapy is an integral part of physiotherapy is often used in treatment planes. Manual therapy includes the use of massage, manipulation and mobilisation to help reduce any stiffness or pain, help blood flow into the affected area, encourage any unwanted fluid to drain away. Using these techniques will allow the patient to become more mobile and provide a sense of relaxation.
