How can an Acupuncture Help
When consulting with a practitioner, they will talk and listen to you about your health, lifestyle and medication you take. They would observe your body language, smell and tone of voice. Your tongue would be examined, and your pulse would be taken. The aim of this would be to establish a pattern of 'disharmony' and produce a diagnosis. After this, our practitioner would seek to treat the meridian with the blockage by inserting needles at specific points. A good example of this is neck pain, which is often associated with the gall bladder meridian, which runs from the outer eye, around the head, into the neck and shoulder and finally down the side of the body to the little toe.
What conditions can an Acupuncturist help
A variety of conditions can be treated with acupuncture. For example, depression is thought to be a indication that the liver qi is stagnant. Acupuncture will encourage the flow of the qi which relieves symptoms; it can also be effective for chronic pain. Acupuncture allows for the simulation of the nervous system to release neurochemicals and endorphins which encourage the body to heal itself. Additionally, acupuncture has been widely used for infertility problems as it helps blood to go to the reproductive organs, aids in patient relaxation. Stress has a major impact on the function of the hypothalamic pituitary-ovarian axis (HPOA), this can lead to infertility, and hormonal imbalances. Acupuncture can encourage the release of beta endorphins in the brain, this affects the hormone levels positively. When a woman feels under stress, the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated, and the ovarian arteries constrict, and blood flow is lessened. As acupuncture inhibits this response blood flow increases. Overall, this enhances the environment for ovarian follicles to develop, increases blood flow to the uterus and improves the thickness of the endometrial lining. As a result, the chances of embryo implanting are increased as a result.
What will my first treatment consist of
Treatment involves relaxing in a chair or bed, whilst fine needles are inserted into the areas our practitioner identifies are causing the issue. The inserted needles will remain in place for approximately 20 minutes. Whilst you certainly shouldn't feel any pain, it is possible you will feel a dull ache. Occasionally it may be necessary to rotate the needles or pass a mild electric current through them. You will probably need a course of several problems.
How long will it take to recover
Most often you will feel better after you first treatment, however, optimal results are achieved after a number of sessions including lifestyle interventions.
Is it Affordable
Yes, acupuncture is absolutely an affordable treatment! Whilst it is not available through NHS services is available to private patients at a fair cost.
